Packing Services for Finished Parts

Secure packing protects finished parts, maintains traceability, and keeps orders on schedule. At Gatto, proper packing is essential to ensure your plated parts arrive organized and protected.

With a dedicated packing department, we offer both standard repacking and custom packaging, including lot labeling, bundling, wrapping, and cell packing. Our in-house packing team handles these details to reduce freight costs, eliminate the need for additional vendors, and keep your production moving smoothly.

Standard Repackaging Process

Every order that comes through our facility is handled with care from the moment it arrives. Our goal is simple: make sure your parts are returned plated, protected, and organized exactly as they came in.

How We Prepare Your Parts for Shipment

We follow a controlled, consistent process for every shipment to maintain organization and traceability.

  • Organized Receiving: All parts and original containers are tagged, tracked, and kept separate throughout plating. You’ll receive back the same containers you send in.
  • Surface Protection: During repacking, all totes, crates, and containers are lined with clean paper to protect plated surfaces, then secured with banding or stretch film for outgoing shipments.
  • Process Support: While we don’t design packaging, our team can provide guidance based on what we’ve seen work to prevent damage during transit. We pack according to how material arrives but can accommodate special requests if additional packing materials are supplied.

Set Your Parts Up for a Smoother Process

How parts arrive determines how easily they can be organized and protected throughout plating. The following details help ensure your material returns in the same condition it was received:

Clean Containers

Send bins, totes, or boxes free of heavy oil or grease to prevent stains on finished parts

Proper Fit Between Parts and Skids

Use sturdy skids or containers sized to properly fit your parts. This helps ensure packaging remains intact during transit.

Visual Separation of Part Numbers

When sending multiple part types, separate and mark them clearly to help avoid mix-ups during plating and repacking.

If your parts need added protection or special presentation, we recommend sending clean or dedicated packing materials. We’ll use what you supply to further protect your finish.

Custom Packing Options and Capabilities

Our team can handle a wide range of packing requirements to best meet your needs, including:

  • Repack Bulk Orders By Weight, Count, Or Dimension - ideal for tubing, threaded rod, cable tray, and hardware that arrive in bulk but must be separated and packaged into smaller lot sizes.
  • Separate And Tag By Lot Or Heat Number - to maintain traceability throughout your production chain.
  • Apply Custom Labels, Barcodes, Or Tags - that align with your internal system or customer requirements.
  • Individually Wrap or Pack Parts by Count or Weight - ideal for components that require specific quantities per container and additional protection.

Our large facility gives us ample space to stage, separate, and organize hundreds of orders, to help us efficiently meet your packing needs.

Example in Action: Simplifying a Complex Job

A customer shipping structural components from Ohio needed parts plated, labeled, and bundled by weight before delivery to their fabricator.

Because we managed every step in-house, their order shipped directly from Gatto to its final destination, instead of moving from our customer to Gatto, back to our customer, and finally to their fabricator. This eliminated excessive freight costs and an extra week of handling.

Packing Designed to Streamline Shipping

By handling plating, packing, and shipping in one facility, we reduce handling, eliminate additional vendors, and help lower freight costs. This is especially valuable for customers shipping to us from outside the Chicagoland area, where these factors have a greater impact on overall cost and transit time.

Here’s what that means for you:

  • Simplified Coordination – one point of contact for plating, packing, and arranging shipments from our facility.
  • Reduced Freight Costs & Faster Turnaround – shipping direct to the end user eliminates extra handling and shortens delivery time.
  • Fewer Touchpoints – less risk of delays or damage between facilities.

Whether your order ships across town or across the country, we make the process efficient, predictable, and easy to manage. Your parts leave Gatto not just plated, but ready for their next step.

Dependable and Convenient for Repeat Jobs

For customers running the same parts regularly, we keep repeat orders consistent and easy to manage. Each shipment is handled according to your instruction, without added coordination.

When specific labeling or packing methods are required, our team follows established procedures to ensure repeatable results. With everything handled under one roof, repeat jobs move efficiently and stay on schedule.
